Vingegaard’s rest day email to Roglic

Twisted Spoke has obtained an email from Jumbo-Visma’s Jonas Vingegaard to teammate Primoz Roglic, sent on the second rest day of the Tour de France. In the email, he discusses his epic battle with Tadej Pogacar and suggests he and Roglic join foces next year.

“Dear Primoz,

Greeting from the Tour de France! It’s the second rest day and I’m still in the yellow jersey! It hasn’t been easy, I gotta tell you. Pogacar just doesn’t know when to stop attacking and every time there’s a damn ramp just before the finish, he tries to drop me and grab the bonus time. It’s so predictable and annoying.

Well, I still have ten seconds on him but it’s like trying to keep a yappy dog away from the food bowl. I can’t take my eyes off him for a second! I literally need eyes in the back of my head.

I keep telling the media the third week belongs to me so I’m glad it’s almost here. I can’t wait for this race to be over. I try to be calm and understated with the media but sometimes I just want to scream. But I must remain in control and focus otherwise Tadej is going to steal more time.

It’s going to be a battle all the way to Paris and I sure wish you were here, Primoz. Remember when we tag-teamed Pogacar on the Galibier last year? Man, that was fun, huh? We destroyed him! Thank goodness I have Sepp Kuss — but he’s not Superman, he can’t do everything! Even with an injured shoulder, you could sure help me hammer Tadej — and get rid of Yates, too. He’s really getting on my nerves.

Well, I hope things are going well with you — I hear you’re doing the Vuelta! How many times are you gonna win that thing? Let’s make a deal that we both ride Le Tour next season. I don’t even care which one of us wins. I just don’t want to have to cover every damn attack Pogacar makes. And hey, if you’ve got the legs, I’m your wing-man. What do you say? Could be fun right?

Your pal — and still in yellow, Jonas.
