Lampre-ISD Giro lineup: No Mantova, yes Padova.

What Padova? I'm in the Giro, baby.

Lampre-ISD announced today that none of their riders who are under suspicion in the Mantova doping investigation will ride the Giro.

That’s sort of half funny and one hundred percent ironic. No Mantova but plenty of Padova, the other, endless doping investigation. Mantova, Padova, NeverOva.

This means ageless 37 year old sprinter Alessandro Petacchi, accused of using PFC and human serum albumin, will be going for stage wins. And by golly, with Bennati gone he might just get one. Something tells us the Ale Jet will make a sprint for retirement and escape unscathed.

Also on the Lampre-ISD Giro roster is Michele Scarponi, who had his hotel room searched and some energy bars examined to see if they contained any Michele Farrai. He was at Mount Etna for a high altitude training camp when the Italian Nucleo Antisofisticazioni police (NAS) dropped by. The search had been ordered up by Padova magistrate Benedetto Roberti who has been digging into the activities of the infamous Dr. Ferrari.

So, two Padova riders in, but no Damiano Cuengo who is on the potential naughty list in Mandova. But then Alessandro Ballan was on the same list a year ago and nothing came to pass.

That’s dope investigations in Italy, lots of smoke, very little flame. On with the Giro!
