Rumors continue to pop up that Jonathan Price and his Gifted Group are going to transform pro cycling with an entirely new structure. New races, new formats, new financial set-up, less Patrick McQuaid.
They are floating some pretty bold ideas but if you want daring, why not also make plans for a fight-to-the-death cage match between Marcel Kittel (Argos-Shimano) and Andre Greipel (Lotto-Belisol)?
Griepel, who owns the title for Sprinter With Cartoon Massive Thighs, steps into the cage with Kittel who is built like a German Panzer tank. Referee Floyd Landis would make sure both riders know the rules and keep the action clean.
Who wouldn’t watch that spectacle?
Kittel is a beast and today in Paris-Nice he made up for his faux pas yesterday in missing the split to stomp everyone in Cerilly. In a slightly uphill finish, Kittel blasted clear of Elia Viviani (Cannondale) and Leigh Howard (Orica-GreenEdge).
Twisted Spoke says let’s talk to the Gifted Group about this new entertainment idea. Kittel and Greipel going thigh-to-thigh, Germano a Germano, no holds barred.
Here’s how this new format plays out: one sprint stage, one rolling stage, a time trial, mountain stage and the grand finale, the cage fight. Winner gets to punch out little Mark Cavendish behind the Omega-Druga team bus with no questions asked, no police involved.
Even Jonathan Vaughters would pay to see that show.
Cool!
