Apparently rumors are swirling, as least according to cyclinguptodate, that Nairo Quintana could fill a roster spot at Trek Segafredo after they fired Antonio Tiberi for killing a cat. It seems the Italian wasn’t impressing the squad with his remorse.
This seems like a truly awesome, ironic and fun-filled plan. Out with the cat killer and in with the Cat killer. It’s so parallel universe.
Now, Quintana is a super climber that loves a brutal ascent, whether it’s a Cat 1 or Cat 2 variety. Really, he loves all cats but especially the kind that hits 15-20% gradients and seems to go on forever. Cats are his thing, his favorite pastime.
Now the hitch is that as yet no big WorldTour teams are hiring Quintana after he tested positive twice for tramadol. He’s appealed to CAS but that didn’t get him anywhere. He insists on his innocence and has been training hard on every categorized climb he can find in Colombia.
However the door of opportunity has now swung open at Trek Segafredo. One man’s cat murder is another man’s lifeline back to grand tours, bright lights and a higher salary. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who loves cats more than the former Movistar and Arkéa Samsic rider . He positively adores them, not like that Tiberi, who preferred time trials to any stage with cats.
Quintana especially loves cats named Mont Ventoux, Galibier and Alpe d’Huez but at this point he’d be more than happy with cats at the Vuelta, Giro d’Italia or wherever the road goes up. He couldn’t be more motivated to prove once again that he has pretty much dedicated his life to cats.
So here’s hoping Quintana can claw his way back to the WorldTour with Trek Segafredo.
