Wiggins. The new killer?

Wiggins. He's mean now.

Let’s try this one on for size this morning: Bradley Wiggins, stone cold killer. Weird or accurate, you make the call.

Wiggins has certainly gone through some transformational experiences in the last few years and as his confident overall victory inParis-Nice showed, he’s a better man and a faster rider and maybe even a killer.

The Brit with the affection for vintage motor scooters and punk music, began life as a track cyclist who became a time trailer and then went to Garmin where Jonathan Vaughters helped turn him into a climber who’d take fourth in the 2009 Tour de France.

Then he left Garmin under acrimonious circumstances for massive euros, team captain status and the pressures of being the head of the new British squad at Sky. It was a challenging process and both Sky and Wiggins had a rough first year — although the team bus was fabulous.

Then last year he won the Criterium du Dauphine, placed third in Paris-Nice and earned his first podium in a grand tour at the Vuelta. Despite a hugely disappointing crash that knocked him out of Le Tour, he’d reached another level — the confident and experienced team leader who could deliver the goods.

That’s all nice wikipedia stuff but after this year’s Race to the Occasional Sun, we have to ask if Wiggins has taken on the even more impressive role of stone cold killer.

He’s winning races with relentless focus, always riding at the front, never panicking, climbing with the leaders, taking the well-calculated risk, reading the race and smashing the time trials. He’s also mastered using the efforts of his teammates to the utmost.

As he said on several occasions during Paris-Nice, he was “flying.” We’d also say he’s added a job title: Bradley Wiggins, killa!
