After today’s mammoth stage up the Galibier, the Frenchman managed to continue his badass run to glory, finishing in the lead group and still holding a 15 second advantage over stage winner Andy Schleck (Leopard-Trek)
The ten days matches the ten he held the jersey back in 2004 when Lance Armstrong was stamping his authority all over the Tour de France. (Stamping by what means, we’re not so sure anymore.)
In any case, Voeckler should damn fine “bon courage” on the Col d’Izoard and the final, muthapedling hump up the Galibier to keep that yellow kit.
Now, Cadel Evans questions the lack of work by Voeckler and his Europcar teammate to contribute to the pacemaking but the Frenchman doesn’t really care what Evans thinks because Voeckler still has yellow and more Credit Lyonaisse lions.
They look nice on the dash but it doesn’t appear there is much room for one more. Tomorrow is the feared and famous Alp d’Huez where Voeckler will lose yellow and have what the French might call “un jour sans lion.”
