Who’s the next Hesjedahl?
Last year is was Garmin’s canuk Ryder Hesjedal who stunned the Tour de France with a 7th place overall.
The 2010 Tour was brutal for Jonathan Vaughters’ boys — in the first week, their GC hope Christian Vande Velde crashed out and top sprinter Typer Farrar fractured his wrist and later abandoned.
The bright spot was Hesjedahl who stepped up — or should we say climbed up — big time. He didn’t crack in that final week and finished the tour with some real good news for Garmin.
Who will be the big surprise this year? Some riders do best when there are no expectations placed on them. Will it be a relatively unknown French rider this year? An unheralded Italian or Spaniard suddenly bursting on the scene?
Or will Garmin-Cervelo deliver the fourth surprise in a row, after Vande Velde and Wiggins and Hesjedahl?
Jonathan Vaughters is hoping that American Tom Danielson wins the coveted Le Big Surprise award.
