Exciting news from the Mile High City. Lance Armstrong and Colorado governor Bill Ritter and corporate sandwich sponsor Quiznos announced a new race for next year. A seven-stage event, August 22nd to the 28th, starting and finishing in Denver, Colorado. Yee-haw!
As an ancient graduate of Green Mountain High School in Lakewood Colorado, we are thrilled with any excuse to get back to the old stomping grounds. We will be there for the inaugural event — especially now that Rebecca is involved.
Already the Quiznos people are re-vamping the menu names to capitalize on this major marketing event. There will now be the Peloton Pesto Turkey sandwich, the Honey Bacon “Breakaway” Club, the King of the Mountains Tuna Melt and the Hors Categorie Ham & Cheese sub. There will also be a Deli jersey awarded each day for the rider who “puts it all together.”
But that’s not the real tantalizing news because who has this kind of intel but Twisted Spoke. We’re predicting a breakout star turn of events for Quiznos’ Rebecca Hall and her “Under the table” video blog.
She’s young, she’s hot, she likes toasted breads and ham, she’s ready to take the next step up the career ladder. Race hostess, then indie film darling, and finally Hollywood A-list superstar. Rebecca rocks, boys and girls. She’s got that down-to-earth sexy girl style, a sly delivery and that come hither, devour-a-sub-sandwich-with-me look.
We’re planning on a press credential now and our first interview won’t be with any of those guys in lycra on the expensive bikes. No, we’ll be getting up close and personal with Rebecca.
Did someone actually get paid to come up with that name, Quiznos Pro Challenge?
If the hope is to grow interest in the sport to the general public, I would have to say they have failed miserably in Step One. That event sounds like something that would take place along side a pie-eating competition and a who-grew-the-biggest-pumpkin contest at a local fair. It says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about a bike race. My non-cycling friends (which is pretty much all of them) are going to laugh in my face when I tell them the name of America's next major stage race.
How about Race Across The Rockies?
Was that so hard?
I'm not naive to the importance of sponsorship but this sounds like something dreamed up by fourth-graders–not to mention that Quizno's already has a reputation for goofy and comical commercials (the Rebecca revelation aside, for the moment). That's not to say they're not entertaining, it just makes it harder to take them seriously in this context. I can only imagine the logo for this event.
But what do I know. My friends already think I'm a jerk because I love to ride my bike in the rain. Maybe it is just me. Maybe I'M the one who doesn't get it!

Get her now Matt, in ten years Rebecca is gonna look like Rosie O’Donald!
Hey, but any girl who loves ham THAT much will one day be asking for the seat belt extension on SouthWest Airlines…they always seem to sit next to me…..
Sorry, I realize I just hate Quiznos. It all stems from my time in Ft Lauderdale about four years ago when I ate at said fast food restaurant regularly. That is, until I spied the guy in the back alternately slicing the cold cuts and picking his nose. I wont go back, even for Rebecca!
Awesome!!! Rebecca is on her way to the top!!! See you in Hollywood!!!!
Big E, Rebecca is a godess. Mark my words.
Rebecca is as cute as can be! What a great video!
She’s headed for fame and future. Matt
I'm with you on this one. Rebecca would be the perfect podium hostess.
Yeah, because she'd have champagne AND sandwiches. Matt
Hi Matt, my name is Allison and I work with Rebecca! We'd love to have an offline chat with you…can you email me your contact information? My email is aleking@quiznos.com. Thanks!!
Hi Allison, sent you a direct email about follow-up. Matt
Rebecca is great! Definitely going places!
We may have an "exclusive!!!!" interview with her soon. Stay tuned.
