Levi Leipheimer wants the tour of Belgium!
The man from the mining town of Butte, Montana signed a contract for 2012 to ride for the Belgian team Quick-Step. Along with a contract for Tony Martin (HTC-Lastroad), that’s a pile of UCI points for team manager Patrick Lefevere.
At the ripe old age of 37, Leipheimer is having a fantastic season with a second in the Tour of California, and big wins in the Tour de Suisse, Tour of Utah and just this last week, the inaugural US Pro Cycling Challenge.
Radio Shack physiologist Allen Lim calls it “old man diesel power” and now Leipheimer takes his defile to Quick Step. No official announcement has been made by the team but it’s a done deal according to a report on Het Nieuwsblad.
This also means we’ll likely see Quick-Step — and perhaps Tom Boonen — back in the Tour of California and a decent chance that the team will bring riders to the US Pro Challenge where Leipheimer will look to defend his crown in the ROckies.
Leipheimer is the consummate professional will to make whatever sacrifices are required to remain at the top level of the sport. Still, Twisted SPoke can’t help but issue a warning: satay away from those frites, Levi.

Levi is a driven little guy. No frites or beer for him. Matt
