The man with the most musical name in cycling, Igor Gonzales de Galdeano is gone. Citing personal reasons and the need for a new challenge, the Euskatel-Euskadi DS is stepping down. He’s had enough orange, thanks.

Interesting to note that Gonzales de Galdeano retired early from his career as a top stage racer. He must get bored easy or lose motivation more quickly than most. We’ll always remember Igor for running over our foot with the Euskatel team car as he barreled up Luz Ardiden in this year’s Tour de France.

Into the breach goes Gorka Gerrikagoitia, who will assume the role of head of sport at the Basque squad. Miguel Madariaga, president of the Fundación Euskadi, will take on the duties of general manager.

“Gorka Gerrikagoitia will take care of the sporting side of things and together we must find a new directeur sportif,” Madariaga told Euskadi Irratia.

Meanwhile, Biciciclismo claims that current rider Iñaki Isasi is set to become a directeur sportif when he retires from racing at the end of this season. Isasi has spent his entire career — eleven years — riding for Euskaltel-Euskadi.

Iñaki Isasi has a melody to it but still, it isn’t as musical as Igor Gonzales de Galdeano.

Franco, that does have a musical ring. Could be an EE song next year. Matt
