Genius cool glowing bike frame.

Uhh, your bike is glowing.

We’re suckers for bikes that glow.

A month a ago we discovered a bike frame that turns luminous at night when hit by bright lights. It was a creation by Mike Mandiberg who wrapped his entire bike in 3M Scotchlite 680 vinyl. Super cool and yes, uhh, bright.

Now we stumbled across an equally imaginative work of staggering genius and lumens using EL copper wire covered with a phosphorescent coating. We bow in praise and wish we had the meager technical skills to put this into operation. Just basic soldering skills that you have and we don’t.

A junior Edison named Sam Smith figured out how to power all this by pedaling his bike and harnessing the energy of an AC motor he had gathering dust in the garage. He lays out the project and it does sound temptingly simple if you can avoid the electrical shocks.

Then again you could probably accomplish the same thing by riding the bike near one of the melting down Japanese nuclear reactors. But imagine the illumination and style points.
