Dean, Freire shot at Tour de France. Red Rider BB gun at fault?

There were some attacks today in the Alps after all.

Although the top  contenders did nothing but mark each other in the wet and rain to Colmar, two top sprinters were under attack. Oscar Freire (Raboabank) and Julian Dean (Garmin) were both  hit with lead pellets fired from a BB gun. Neither rider was hurt seriously although Oscar had a pellet extracted from his leg by the team doctor. Dean was hit in the index finger; a third shot apparently missed the peloton.

Don’t kids listen when their parents warn them about BB guns? Remember Ralphie in A Christmas Story? Sounds like some little French boy will soon be in a ton of tres chaud water. You can get knocked out of the tour in a lot of ways — crashes, colds, time cuts — but a shot from a BB gun? That’s a new one.
