2011 Tour de France seen as 1970’s Tour de France.

Someday, twenty or thirty years from now we’ll look at the photos of the 2011 Tour de France and think of it as old history, the dusty past, as ancient as old Merckx photos.

On a whim one day, I happened to take out my iPad2 and iPhone and play around with my 2011 TDF photos. Using the Hipstamatic app on the iPhone, I took pictures of the tour photos displayed on the iPad2. The Hipstamatic photo app specializes in retro looks, vintage filters and lens from the 60’s and 70’s.

It was a fun and instructive lesson because I realized that we’re living history at each moment and each moment is timeless and rich. The images of Voeckler and Samuel Sanchez, Andy Schleck and Basso are a kind of poignant reminder of how time passes, our perceptions of present and past but how fantastic the Tour de France is — no matter what decade we find ourselves in.

Le Tour never gets old or fades away.

    Genius.

I have spent half the winter watching The Greatest Show on Earth and thinking how old film coloration makes something seem like another age, and I thought the shots of Cav on the podium at the Worlds made him look like someone already in the history books. Tempus Fugit.
