When Sky superstar Bradley Wiggins was hit by a van while on a training ride, he suffered a broken rib, mild head injury, bruised lung and a dislocated finger. Sadly, it was not his middle finger that was dislocated.
Wiggins used his non-dislocated finger to flip off a group of journalists as he was returning home from the Royal Preston Hospital. He later apologized saying he was “tired and in a lot of pain” but he didn’t direct the apology to the journalists, just fans in general.
It seems that the reigning Tour de France champion is showing signs of an anger management issue. During Le Tour he lashed out in front of journalists with an obscenity laced tirade in response to a question about doping. He accused his critics of “bone-idleness” and finished things off with the word “c***s
This week in a Guardian newspaper extract of his soon-to-be-released autobiography, Wiggins says he gets “incredibly angry” when accused of doping. He also stated he’s often irritated by the extra attention he receives in public. The posing for pictures, the interruptions at restaurants, the never-ending drag of being recognized by everyone in Merry Olde England.
We all know that Wiggo likes to crank the Sex Pistols up loud. Bradley is turning himself into Johnny Rotten singing their song Feelings — “You never realize I take the piss out of you. You come up and see me and I’ll beat you black and blue.” Uh, and give you that middle finger!
Hey, the man is worked up and in some measure he has a right to be. However, continuing to take it out on journalists and fans isn’t likely to improve things. Wiggins has a fantastic sense of humor but the flip side (pun intended) is a nasty streak that seems to be getting wider.
Wiggins, put the middle finger away, alright?
This weird character does not behave as a champion. Perhaps he found it funny, but actually it was pathetic.
Bradley is having trouble adjusting to being an extremely famous athlete in his home country. He just doesn’t enjoy all the trappings and obligations of the role. Matt
Everyone is human and yes Wiggins is rad. Tell it the way it is, then if need be apologize better than being Leipheimer boring.
Agree 100% per cent. Love Wiggins sense of humor. Nobody wants Levi Dull. Matt
That haircut is effin brutal and funny at the same time. Is he serious?
Wiggins is a man of style. Yes, he means it. Matt
