Tour de France countdown: lions in bus!

Grrrrr.....

Don’t these lions look happy basking in the sunshine on the dash of the Europcar bus? Every day another lion showed up, a direct correlation to Thomas Voeckler spending a week or so in yellow and winning a stage or two.

The French squad always steps it up big time in their own grand tour with Voeckler and Pierre Roland who won a stage on Alp d’Huez in 2011. With Europcar’s sponsorship deal set to end in 2014, the team of Jean-Rene Bernaudeau is once again begging for funds.

Voeckler himself has said he’s like the situation sorted out by Le Tour so that he doesn’t have to go through the stress of waiting and waiting like he did when BBox left. He was hours from signing a contract to move to Cofidis when the rental car deal finally came through.

In other words, Europcar will be trying to fill the dashboard with a few Credit Lyonnais lions. The men in green will jump in the breaks, look for Voeckler to steal his usual canny stage win and Rolland to deliver something spectacular in the mountains. Lions = euros.

However, we suspect that the team set to win the most lions in the 2013 Tour de France might be Team Sky. Should Froome take the maillot jaune early, their bus will be a zoo.

Team manager David Brailsford has reportedly asked ASO and Credit Lyonnais if they can make a black lion to match the decor of the Sky bus. So far no response on that front but maybe them can dye the lions themselves.

Vive le Tour, vive les lions.
