Tom Boonen decided the race with a brutal attack on the Paterberg climb. He made the winning move, unfortunately it was the second place move. His acceleration dumped the entire peloton and only Fabian Cancellara (Saxo Bank) and Juan Antonio Flecha (Team Sky) were able to claw their way up to him. Three kings and 42 kilometers to the finish.
The climb of the Cote du Trieu was scrapped when high winds knocked a tree down over the road. A huge trash can blew across the course, knocking down Stijn Devolder. Lightening struck Leif Hoste and he glowed bright white for a solid hour (just kidding.) Cobblestones, crashing trees, flying trashcans -- yeah, must be bike racing in Belgium in late February.
Flecha's nickname is the Spanish Flandrian and we're beginning to wonder how that happened? Was he born with some kind of recessive cobblestone-chromosome? We may even be dealing with a abduction scenario. Spanish couple desperate for child swipes Belgian baby from Antwerp hospital.
