Sevilla to ride for Colombia in 2012 Worlds? A cat jumps.

Oscar the Colombian Cat.

Word is that the Spaniard is considering riding for Colombia in the World Championships. That sounds like a done deal when you look at the four major decision points.

First, his wife is Colombian, he has residency in the country and has lived there for a number of years.

Second, he already rides for a top Colombian team, the Gobernacion De Antioquia squad, so he practically qualifies as a native.

Third, Sevilla has basically followed Gobernacion’s director sportif Santiago Botero all around the world. They rode together in Kelme, Phonak and the disastrous Rock Racing. Botero is also a member of the Colombian Olympic committee.

Fourth, after his involvement in Operacion Puerto and his recent six month suspension for masking agent Hydroxyethyl Starch, it’s highly unlikely he’ll be riding for Spain. Oscar may have a few lives but he’s also not getting any younger.

“I have residency in Colombia and they have offered to me citizenship to ride the Worlds for Colombia, so I’m going to think about it,” Sevilla told La Verdad. “However, I’m not forgetting that Spain is my country, and I carry Albacete and Castilla-La Mancha inside of me.”

Uhh, yeah, but more likely he’s carrying Medellin inside him now. Look for Oscar in a Colombian Worlds jersey in 2012.
