Schlecks promise to attack Evans in Rockies.

WIll they finally beat Evans in the Rockies?

They didn’t destroy him in the Pyrenees and couldn’t kill him in the Alps of the Tour de France.

So the Brothers Schleck have decided to wait one month, rest up, re-think some strategy and then attack Evans in the high mountains again. This time it’s the Colorado Rockies.

Yes, it’s the Tour de France mountain duel, transplanted to the high mountains of Colorado and the US ProCycling Challenge. Both Schlecks are set to race and Evans has announced he will also ride the race. Yee-haw!

The Schlecks plan to beat Evans in the mountains and if it happens to be the Rockies and not the French Alps, then so be it. If they fail  in the Rockies, they plan to challenge Evans to a duel in the Himalayas.

The Pyrenees were not high enough in altitude, the Alps were higher but the Rockies, at over two miles up in the sky, may prove decisive for the Schlecks.

One way of another, they will break Evans, crush his spirit, reduce him to an exhausted, sobbing child. No matter how many mountains, how may countries and how many races it takes.

Hahahahhha. I'm sure Evans will ride in support of someone else. Hincapie maybe. But I'm pretty sure he's just showing up and not in it to win it. (Tour specialist)

Do not underestimate my good friend Chris Horner! He could surprise many in the peloton.

Just remember, what goes up, must come down. Unless they're all summit finishes. Don't know; are some of them summit finishes?

P.S.: You never know at the time what images will stick with you long afterwards. For me, the most vivid and enduring image from the tour is from the stage to Gap. A,motorcycle, pedal-high view of Cadel Evans leaving Contador and S.Sanchez way behind on that wet descent. He was disappearing into the distance and around a right-hand bend at an astonishing rate; I couldn't believe the risks he was taking. It took my breath away. Even Contador and Sanchez didn't try to keep up. Never forget it.

Beth, that's a very good image. Evans fooled everyone because he's quiet and a dull quote and doesn't have that fluid pedaling style like a Contador — he always looks like he's working. But he came in from day one having made the decision to ride with aggression every single day. As you pointed out, that descent said plenty about his plans. Matt

Don't under estimate the former mtn biker in the Rockies, Andy & Frank will wish they went to the Vuelta….

Many of you need to understand that US ProCycling Challenge is just a regular old race with zero pedigree, zero history and not so big a prize list. Do you think the Tour contenders will lay it all out for a Quizmo sub sandwich prime? Don't expect the same risks to be taken, maybe from the USA based Conti Teams as its their time to show their stuff to the ProTour team DS's.

Basically its an exhibition race for the Euro Pro's so do expect the locals to shine, just don't get too wishful at them actually winning a race in Europe.

Jorge, lighten up willya? 🙂 Sure, the race is new and nobody big will be trying to win the thing except for the US riders. That's okay. The Rockies will be a stunning backdrop and like the Tour of California, the potential for this race is massive. Give it 5 years. Matt

I think the American based teams and the Euro teams with American bike sponsors will have some pressure placed upon them to do well.

At least in Colorado there won't be anything "dangerous", "suicidal" or whatever Frandy Schleck called anything requiring some bike handling skills and cojones to ride down. But I look for all these guys to enjoy (if you can call riding in that thin air enjoyable) a Colorado vacation after a tough TdF, while some lesser lights work hard to make some headlines for their sponsors.

I wonder if the Tour of the Rockies will get the Tour of California curse. As in it will rain every stage even if there has been no rain on those days or cities in years?

Something tells me we'll be in for a surprise come race day.

Doesn't Tour of the Rockies sound better than all the other names they've come up with? I think the generic name they have now is so if they want to move for a more lucrative deal in some other area they can move and keep the name, too bad.
