Riders to watch? Where are Americans?

Joe gets a no go

The Inner Ring just did his 10 riders to watch in 2017. Then he kept going and mentioned 10 other riders worth our attention for the upcoming season.

There were no US riders listed in the top ten and only one managed to make it into the top 20 with a short mention and the other crawled in as an afterthought, not officially one of the 20.

This kinda surprised me and then made me feel a little sad. Are there so few US riders that merit a closer look? Are we so dull, uninspiring, lacking in physiological power and wattage?

Making the top 20 was Cannondale-Drapac’s Michael Woods. He earned himself a short one sentence mention — the last sentence, the lanterne rouge of the blog post. And Taylor Phinney got himself a quick aside in the section that focused on Australian Lachlan Morton of Dimension Data.

Okay, that’s a little bleak, don’t ya think? I guess it’s another big loss for the United States, what with Donald Trump soon to be president.

Couldn’t BMC’s Joey Rosskopf weasel his way in? Is Joe Dombrowski already tired old news? Is Lawson Craddock simply not delivering enough goods to get the Inner Ring excited? Is Chada Haga not a worthy candidate for more than his piano-playing skills and sense of humor?

Is there nobody here on the rise in the United States that demands attention? Should we bring back Chris Horner? Sad times are these, my US cycling brethren.
