Fave portraits from Tour of California 2016

Whew, still recovering from a whirlwind Tour of California and cranking out a long story on Jelly Belly’s Angus Morton and his quest to earn himself a place back on a WorldTour team.

We also put together a nice mid-size interview with Tour revelation Neilson Powless of Axeon-Hagens Berman. All told nearly 3500 words of wisdom. That all goes into an upcoming issue of Cycle Sport magazine. Thus a serious shortage of posts for Twisted Spoke.

Nevertheless, the camera was working, sorta. I borrowed it from work and tried to learn how to use it on the fly. Got most everything figured out except that the autofocus was unaccountably slow. So no high speed shots or grabbing riders on the move.

That said, we did get a few good portraits once the autofocus actually focused. Here are five faves — Boonen, Kristof, Phinney, Stetina and Talansky — and we’ll post another five tomorrow.
