Nibali still dreaming Giro-Tour nonsense.

Wake up, Vincenzo.

Vincenzo Nibali is still operating in that happy off-season haze where even top champions dream of impossible things.

In Nibali’s case, it’s the Giro-Tour double. He hasn’t said yes or no but it’s clear from his quotes that he is still intrigued by the challenge.

Don’t do it, Vince!

Just the other day, the Italian said “The door to the Giro isn’t completely closed yet even if the priority in 2015 will again be the Tour.”

Nibali is slowly losing patience with those who keep asking if he could have won the Tour de France against a healthy Chris Froome and Alberto Contador. Both crashed out of the Grand Shindig, leaving the door open for the italian to destroy what was left of the compeition.

If he’d like to silence those critics forever, he should skip the Giro d’Italia and focus 100% on the Tour. Froome isn’t foolish enough to wear himself out in Italy first and neither should Nibali.

Yes, Alberto Contador has committed to the Giro-Tour double shot of torture and everyone else thinks that’s not such a wise idea.

Still, it’s the off-season– time to think wild thoughts over a few glasses of Barolo. Yeah, wouldn’t that be epic to win two grand tours? You bet it would. Instant legend, superstar status secured for all time, a giant among giants.

The wonderful thing about Nibali is his wide skill-set and desire to win all kinds of races. “Then there are the big classics, the monuments, which would make my career more completely. I have a few accounts to settle, because between Liege, Milan-San Remo and the Worlds, I’ve missed a few opportunities,” said the Shark.

Missed opportunity? How about missing out on a shot to win a second consecutive Tour de France? Nothing wrong with thinking big but riding the Giro would be a big mistake.

We’re sure that by April, Nibali will come to his senses. Like Froome with his momentary Giro flirtation after he learned the Tour had no long TT, Nibali will realize that coming to the Tour mentally and physically drained is not the best title defense.

Until then, well, sure. Loose talk is always entertaining.
