Mavic’s new Allroad apparel. Skillful, casual.

Mavic goes Allroad

Mavic is hungry. In the last year, they’ve been incredibly busy building out what’s already a fairly expensive set of product lines. New wheel-sets, new apparel, new shoes.

Now they’ve totally expanded the genre-blurring idea of Mavic Allroad. Casual yet skillful garments that are happy wherever you point your bike. It’s road, gravel, trail, single track, pretty much any road with a chill vibe attached. This is what you wear on and off — remember, the French invented après ski and now they bring you après bike.

Set for a US launch at Sea Otter, April 19th, down in Monterey, California, the Allroad line is comprised of four items and an Allroad Pro shoe. There’s the Allroad Fitted Baggy Short, Allroad Jersey, Allroad Thermo Long Sleeve Jersey and Allroad Insulated Vest.

The Fitted Baggy Short looks to be intriguing and slightly contradictory — is it fitted or it is baggy? Based on the photo, I’d lean toward fitted and that suits me fine. Ive got long shinny legs so baggy can quickly become comical. Two high points are the nice, mechanical stretch and a Trail Tech ST woven fabric. All colors are understated so you can walk into a cafe or work space, without the gawking.

The Allroad Jersey is a medium grey and slate blue combination, the blue echoing the color palette on some of the hardcore road apparel. We particularly appreciate the button collar — which gives you all kinds of use-case versatility. The overall design is almost like a split screen effect: more casual on the lower half, more athletic on the top.

The Allroad Thermo Long Sleeve Jersey is a mid-weight, mid-season garment that fairly screams multi-purpose. There’s a brushed lining and on the photo-appearance alone, looks a little more fitted while still loosing up on the race attitude and cut.

I’m particularly drawn to the Allroad vest. It’s reversible so it leads a rewarding double existence — grey and silver for keeping things low-key on and off the bike and optic orange for when you need the high-vis effect. You should be more than cozy with the Primaloft insulation. This vest could very well be the centerpiece of a Fall and Winter kit. The Allroad Pro shoes won’t be available until September so we’ll revisit that at a later date.

US prices for the Allroad apparel have not yet been set. So keep your credit card handy but no need for immediate action.

On top of all this chill-worthy, performance-focused goodness, Mavic has also built out their Allroad line of wheels and tires. The newcomers include the Allroad Pro UST Disc ($1100), Allroad Elite UST Disc($800), Allroad Elite UST ($800), Allroad Elite Road+ Disc 650b ($800) and Allroad UST ($300). A larger 40c Yksion Allroad XL UST tire is a new addition and joins the Yksion Allroad UST tire, now available in 30c and 35c widths.

I have a brand spanking new Ksyrium Disc wheel-set in review and hopefully I will get a chance to test one of these new Allroad additions later. We’re riding the 65 mile Peter Sagan gravel gran fondo on May 5th with a brand new Calfee bamboo gravel bike, so it will be the ideal machine to match with Mavic.

The French company has made an impressive roll of the dice on Allroad. Check out the Mavic website because it’s getting to be kind of amazing how they’ve grown and expanded. Vie L’Allroad!
