Linus Gerdemann, the sexy boy band bike racer who really belongs on the cover of a teen nagazine, won the second stage of the Tour of Luxembourg. Teenage cyclist groupies swoon!
We’ve always thought Linus looks like a younger and far prettier version of the actor William Defoe. Same jaw, same eyes, same mouth and we’d love to see Gerdemann in a distant remake of Apocalypse Now playing the Defoe role of Elias.
We recall seeing Linus up close at the hotel coffee shop in Lake Tahoe for the Tour of California, He appears to weigh about 70 pounds and ready to audition for the backup signing role in Justin Bieber’s band. He’s a sweet little Leopard and you can’t imagine him muscling his way through the peloton to get to the front of any race.
We assume that’s the job for Jens Voight to drag Linus up, shouting, “get out of the way, cute little Leopard coming thru.” Jesus, we’re mean sometimes.
In stage two, the high speed jaunt from Schifflange to Differdange, Gerdemann drove a three rider break with Anthony Charteau (Europcar) and Jürgen Van Goolen (Veranda’s Willems-Accent). Then the boy-man dropped those two and rode the last of the three 9.4km finishing circuits on his own, savoring the forgone conclusion and the new leaders jersey.
“The whole team did incredible work today,” said Gerdemann. “It was a perfect day. We knew we wanted to make the stage hard. We wanted to win the stage, and we wanted to keep yellow. We accomplished all of this.
“I chose to attack because I was confident in my time trial skills,” said Gerdemann. “I knew I could make a difference on the flats. I would get my gap on the flat road, and then I could defend it on the climb. I thought if I did it this way, the riders behind would see I had a chance and maybe give up a little bit.”
That seems like a smart strategy and it seemed to work to perfection. Gerdemann used his head and his legs and carried some extra motivation.
“On the last time up the climb, I thought about Wouter [Weylandt] and his family. I wanted to do this for myself and for the team, but I especially wanted to make sure I could do it all the way to the line for Wouter.”
There are just two stage left in little Luxembourg, the little stage race that could and, Gerdemann holds a two-second lead over Alexandre Geniez (Skil-Shimano) on general classification with Tony Gallopin (Cofidis) one second behind in third overall.
Go Linus, go.
Oh, you are mean! But that was funny! 😀 I'm surprised you didn't mention anything about a blankie???
Blankie? I need to know more. Matt
When I hear the name Linus I think about the character from "The Peanuts." Linus always had a blankie!
Ahh, yes. Exactly. Now I get it. DIdn't he play the piano. Matt
ha ha ha–no, that's Schroder! 🙂
Schroeder–forgot an "e" oops!
In Gerdemann's defense, he climbs well because he only seems to weigh 70 pounds, and if I were a teen, I'd run screaming and crying behind him on the road! Hell, I might even do that now! 😛
Heidi, a good point. He is a sexy little vixen. If I was young and confused about my sexuality I might be all over him. Matt
I think you mean remake of Platoon, not Apocalypse Now
You're darnn right I do — getting my Vietnams mixed up. Matt
