Interbike goodie #5: Ride Concepts mountain bike shoes

Ride Concepts

The evening before Interbike was the media preview of about twenty of so brands that felt like they had a particularity good story to tell.

It was an eclectic mix of companies like Assos, Reform Saddles, Basso Bikes, Floyd’s of Leadville and Ride Concepts.

The Ride Concept shoes on display immediately caught my eye with their fun range of colors and a style that hits that sweet spot between classic and a modern twist on retro.

It’s the kind of design that looks good both on and off the bike — and I’m a fan of versatility and cost cutting. As a side note, they’re out of Truckee, California when I have a getaway cabin so I wanted to root for the home team.

Nouveau retro?

That local boosterism aside, Ride Concepts looks like they have a strong point of view. Run by co-founder Anne Cahill and Brandon Dodd, they have a design group in Los Angeles and Toronto along with close representation at the factory level in China.

They decided to focus on high-performance mountain bike footwear that distinguishes itself through higher quality materials and smarter design and ergonomics. Particular attention was spent on developing the rubber compounds for the soles to dial in durability and grip in all conditions.

Their partnership with industry leader Rubber Kinetics gives Ride Concepts what they feel is a clear edge in sole quality and performance. A tight collaboration with 3DO boosted impact protection into the innersoles. 3DO also works with companies like Under Armor and Red Wing so Ride Concepts is stepping up the game in mountain bike footwear.

Ride, ride, ride.

Ride Concepts has three series — Session, Flow, and Launch. Most are flat sole but the Transition model in the Flow series can go clipless if that’s your pref. Just based on the hand and eye test, the Ride Concept shoes are indeed well-built with a quality look and feel. Prices run from $100 to $160 for the men’s shoes.

So if you’re looking an all-mountain, do everything, last forever, mountain bike shoes, check out Ride Concepts.
