Hushovd goes Garmin. Who’s next?

Hushovd: Yes, I like pomegranate juice.

Norwegian Thor Hushovd, of the fast folding Cervelo TestOver team, has signed a contract to ride with Garmin for the 2011 season.

“I have signed for Garmin, so this is my new team for next year,” Hushovd told TV 2 Sport after finishing stage three of the Vuelta a España. “I have signed because they are focusing very much on the classics next year, and that’s a big goal for me.”

This is a great move for what will now be called the Garmin-Cervelo squad. Hushovd is a tough guy, hardman who can win on the cobbles and he’s also a damn nice guy — which makes him a good fit for the friendly but deadly riders manager Jonathan Vaughters already has on his roster. Plus, it’s one more strong man to butt heads with Mark Renshaw and Mark Cavendish at HTC-Columbia.

“It’s going to be a very good team and I get to bring many of the other riders I have at Cervélo with me. I think this is the best solution,’ said the Norwegian champion. Vaughters now has a back-up in case Farrar gets injured again in next year’s Tour de France.

Still left to be resolved: who else from Cervelo will be joining Hushovd? Rumors claim Heinrich Haussler, Andreas Klier and Roger Hammond may also jump ship for the Boulder, Colorado based team.

However, Vaughters is still evaluating how much Pom pomegranate juice and Chipotle burritos they can handle in one sitting. Nobody gets on the Garmin bus unless they’re multi-talented.

So now…what do suppose will happen to the popularity of Felt Bikes since the combined team will ride Cervelo next year? It will be interesting to see if Felt bounces well and ends up under another Pro Tour level team. It will be a bigger issue for the success of Felt to figure out than the issue Jonathan Vaughters faces trying to figure out which riders he picks from the litter and which he lets go to look elsewhere.

Felt is gone Sam and Trek is in. Damn, I liked the Felt style way more.

I find it interesting that it was Felt who walked way from Garmin… There is something behind the split, but no one is talking

…I'd now look for Felt under the Schlecks

Felt is a great looking bike, way more than the Trek they'll be riding now.

The combined Garmin/Cervelo team is to be riding Cervelo bikes. Trek will be under Schlecks, as of yesterday.
