Garmin-Sharp’s David Millar in wheel-chair?

Millar. An invalid?

Cycling fans could be forgiven for asking what terrible accident had befallen Garmin-Sharp’s David Millar.

Had he been hit by a Spanish driver on the way back from his training ride like Levi Leipheimer last year? Had a bad crash caused a dangerous infection that threatened the loss of a limb like Tom Boonen?

Had the 36 year old Miller suddenly and tragically succumbed to some kind of accelerated aging disease which took his legs out from under him?

It was difficult to say because a first glance at the new Fizik web advertising appeared to show Millar in a wheel-chair. The unfortunate photo cropping and camera angle shows Millar seated on a flat bench with his right arm resting on the top of the front wheel of his Cervelo.

The immediate thought was “my God, the man’s in a wheelchair!” Was he crippled by wearing those expensive R3 Uomo Fizik cycling shoes with the Kangaroo leather and sail cloth resistant straps? Does team boss Jonathan Vaughters know one of his road captains in now a paraplegic and hors de combat?

The Fizik marketing message states that for Miller, “The Road Is My Life.” Well, okay, but pushing a wheelchair down a sad and lonely road? Let us pray for David Miller’s miraculous recovery.
