These stage races are exhausting, no doubt about it.
However, Arnaud Coyot may have taken things a little too far. The Caisse d’Epagne rider was found fast asleep on the road at the start area of stage 4 of the Tour de Suisse. According the spectators, he was totally crashed.
The rider was apparently so whupped he simply laid down and dozed off. Teammates were unable to wake the slumbering Frenchman and eventually, race officials were required to forcible roust Coyot. The embarrassed Coyot insisted he was not sleeping but merely taking a quick power nap.
“It is ridiculous to say I was sleeping. Do you see a pillow, a blanket? I closed my eyes, that is all,” said Coyot.
Swiss officials however tell a different story. “He was out cold. We shouted in his ear, we kicked him in the ribs — he was dead to the world,” said race commissar Herve Placard.
“We told him, this is a race. not a slumber party. If you want to sleep, go to your hotel.” Race officials gave Coyot the Least Agressive Rider award for the day.
Jeez, poor guy comes out worse from that crash with a possible career ending crash and you joke about it. Perhaps you need a wake up call.
Esteban, Twisted Spoke is often about finding something funny and unexpected in cycling. That was aterrible crash and nobody likes to see those things but still, there's a funny side to most everything. We're here to entertain.
