Armstrong to race Amstel gold in 2010. Will refuse to drink beer.

Yes race, no suds.

Lance does drink beer, just not that crappy Amstel swill.

The seven time Tour winner announced he’s riding in the Amstel Gold race in the Netherlands in April. The event is sponsored by the Amstel beer.

Armstrong and his Radio Shack squad will be there but with reservations. Liquid ones, certain hops restrictions, a beer barrier that cannot be crossed, a suds edict. The Texan will not be throwing back any mugs of Amstel beer after his days’ work in the Spring classic.

Why, beer drinkers ask? Well, Armstrong signed a three-year deal to be the “spokesperson and ambassador” for Michelob ULTRA.

In his press release, the former Shiner Bock drinker said “I’m always making decisions that complement my active lifestyle, and this includes my beer choice when I want to enjoy a cold one with friends or when taking a break from training.” Man, that’s classic pr speak, written on auto-pilot.

In other words, this is the way Twisted Spoke thinks Lance has this planned: yes on the hilly one day Amstel Gold race, no on the frosty mug of Amstel beer.
